Disease Driven Surveillance: No escaping data's eye?

“Public health surveillance is vital to containing and calming the pandemic. Health data displays trends, names hotspots and directs policy. How data is collected and analyzed is critical to success. Modelling is one use for data, contact-tracing is another. Each of these raises many issues, challenging conventional wisdom and overturning some privacy protections. But a pandemic is a social phenomenon that affects everyone, not only those who are vulnerable or who are infected. Intensified surveillance is one way that all are affected. Whether for policing quarantines, or for shopping, working or learning online—everyone is under surveillance as never before.”
